Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the former director has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and hindering a congressional proceeding.

His legal representative submitted the answer on his behalf in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would seek to have the legal matter thrown out for multiple reasons including that his the accused, a critic of Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

The former director was indicted just days after the former president urged his attorney general to take action against him.

At the proceedings on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer Mr Fitzgerald informed the magistrate they intended to present multiple petitions to throw out the legal matter before a court case, arguing the government's case was retaliatory and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully designated to handle the proceedings.

The former director's legal matter was originally managed by the original attorney, who stepped down under influence from Donald Trump after his investigation into another political adversary - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to bring criminal charges.

James Comey appeared in positive mood as he walked into the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his legal team and making jokes. He was joined by his wife, his wife and offspring his daughter, a government attorney who the former government dismissed.
